Erotic Poetry and Nude Photography

A story that had been nagging at me for a long time is finally finished, and published. This one is about blending two arts together, poetry and photography. I am a lousy photographer, but have always been a fan of truly good photographer. While there are a number of good, perhaps even great, photographers working, the two that I have come to admire the most over time are Robert Maplethorpe and Edward Weston. Both men took remarkable photos of nudes, but each brought a unique vision to his work. They are so different, yet both produced stunning work.

As an erotic poet, as well as fiction writer, I have played with the contrasts of light and dark, of visual texture, in my poetry. I love doing this.

My story presupposes that a female erotic poet is sent by her publisher to collaborate with a male nude photographer. The publisher is amazed at the erotic expression in the photos and wants a book in which the poet examines how those expressions are elicited and captured. Not a documentary, but poetic insight. The story begins with that challenge, and how two quite different people, who share a common joy in the art of erotica, deal with it.

It is a reasonably long short story (around 7500 words) and has far less actual sex in it than any I have published recently, although it does have explicit sex scenes (buyer be warned). I believe it is far more erotic, however, as like the sex act itself, it builds to a climax that is both artistic and sexual.

The not clever at all title is The Erotic Poet and The Nude Photographer. And it is available at Smashwords now, and will soon be on Amazon.
